Rabbi Shlomo Schneor, the veteran rabbi of the city of Carteille in the suburbs of Paris, was elected to the position of Chief Rabbi of Paris and the metropolitan area.
The vote took place at the offices of the Jewish Consistory of Paris, and the elected rabbi won a majority of the members of the electorate.
Rabbi Schneur will replace Rabbi Yitzhak Guggenheim, who is currently completing two terms spanning 14 years. The rabbi-elect is expected to take office in the coming weeks.
