The Ministerial Committee for Legislation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Yariv Levin, approved MK Shalom Danino's bill, which regulates appointments in the civil service.

According to the proposal, 100 days after the formation of an elected government, the terms of a number of officeholders will expire and the elected government will choose whether to renew their terms or select other candidates to replace them.

This includes a long line of senior officials in the public service and the security establishment - including the Chief of Staff, the Commissioner-General, the head of the Shin Bet, the head of the Mossad, the Attorney General, and other senior officials.

The proposal also changes the appointment mechanism, reduces the role of professional committees, and gives the government broader authority to appoint and dismiss senior officials at its discretion.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Yariv Levin: "The time has come for an elected government to be able to work with public officials who are committed to its policies. This is an important step on the path to fixing the systems and restoring governance. I thank the senior forum that worked hard to formulate the bill in cooperation with MK Shalom Danino, who submitted the bill and is leading it in the Knesset.".
