Former minister and ambassador Gilad Erdan announced this evening (Wednesday) that he is "examining the establishment of a unifying right-wing party.".
In an interview on Channel 12, Erdan said: "I am not a centrist, I am a clear right-winger. There is a very large public here, even more so after October 7, that is fed up. They are simply fed up with the fact that the only two options they see before their eyes are a right-wing government that depends on the haredi parties, and therefore it is impossible to bring here a real partnership in the burden, conscription, core studies that will allow everyone to integrate into the labor market. On the left, certainly after the Bennett-Lapid union, we see a competition as to who will be the head of the bloc, who will boycott every meeting with the other side, and it is clear to the majority of the public that such a left-wing government will depend on the Arab votes.".
Erdan's comments come after an interview with Benny Gantz this week, who said similar things.
Erdan replied: "I am Gilad Erdan and I am not Benny Gantz. I can only regret that he lost the public credit he had along the way, but this is precisely the proof. Benny Gantz, after October 7, when he joined the government, even he, who is not a right-winger, the majority of the public shifted their position and Gantz was at the peak of his mandates in the polls.
""This proves that there is a very large public here that does not have a home. There is a political vacuum of people who want to see national reconciliation, who want to see us sit together and deal with the real problems, the stuck transportation system and the governance in the Galilee and the Negev. This clash comes at the expense of so many things that the public is waiting for solutions and historic decisions that simply do not happen. The party will be a unifying right-wing party if it is established, and a decision will be made in the coming weeks.".
Political commentator Amit Segal responded: "Erdan's test - is the demand for unity real or an illusion?""
