The Reuters news agency published a report today (Wednesday) in which an Israeli source was quoted as saying that "Israel was preparing for an escalation in fighting against Iran, and was unaware that US President Donald Trump was seeking to close a deal in the immediate term.".
The Prime Minister's Office was quick to deny the report, citing a "political source": "The Americans did not surprise us.".
The senior political official said that security and political coordination between the countries is closer than ever. "The Americans did not surprise us. Prime Minister Netanyahu is in constant contact with President Trump, and they have almost daily conversations. There is direct contact between the Prime Minister's people and the President's people.
""It was made clear to us from the talks that President Trump stands by his red lines, chief among them the removal of the nuclear material.".
The source emphasized: "The Prime Minister instructed the IDF to be prepared for any scenario, including returning to combat if necessary.".
President Trump said in a conversation with PBS that a deal to end the war may be reached before his trip to China next week - which would also include the transfer of highly enriched uranium from Iran to the United States.
The speaker of the Iranian parliament responded to the reports: "We do not rule out the possibility of a military attack. It is surprising how our enemies have not yet understood that we are ready to die and not give up.".
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaie told the Iranian news agency ISNA that the American proposal is still being examined in Iran and that the response to the proposal will be forwarded to Pakistan after it is agreed upon.
ISNA also reported that the proposal reported on the Axios website is ambitious and unrealistic, and that sections of it have been strongly rejected by senior Iranian officials in recent days.
