Michael Shemesh, the political correspondent for Kan News, is leaving the public broadcasting corporation after nine years - and is moving to Hadashot 13.
Shemesh will replace Lior Keinan in the role - who, according to News 13, "requested to concentrate on the 'Shishi' program in her hosting. Keinan will remain part of the company's leading team of commentators and presenters.".
News 13 CEO Tali Ben Ovadia welcomed the appointment: "Michael Shemesh is a symbol of uncompromising and fearless journalism. We are happy and proud to add him to News 13's winning team, and promise to continue building a high-quality and leading news company here.".
Shemesh: "After fascinating years at the Public Broadcasting Corporation, where I had a warm home and a school for professional journalism, with close friends and excellent professionals, I am excited to join News 13. I look forward to starting to work with the channel's excellent team and hope that I will be able to bring viewers good and important stories.".
Shemesh, 29, was born in Bnei Brak. His father is Rabbi Moshe Shemesh, head of the Beit Shlomo kollel in Tel Aviv. His mother is the rabbi and lecturer Ruth Shemesh. At the age of 16, he began working for the Haredi radio station Kol Rama, where he served as a reporter and columnist. During this period, Shemesh used the pen name "Eli Daniel.".
He served on Galei Tzahal as a correspondent in the Knesset and a correspondent for Jerusalem affairs. After his release from Galei Tzahal, he joined the Israel Broadcasting Corporation as a political correspondent.
Shemesh's joining is part of a strategic move by Channel 13, which also includes the appointment of Suleiman Maswad from Kan News as the channel's US correspondent and senior political commentator.
