Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to what he described as "absurd" this afternoon (Tuesday), at the beginning of his testimony in court, after the court ruled that a hearing would be held at the height of the security escalation.
Netanyahu presented to those present his busy schedule from the past 24 hours, which includes extensive security and political activity.
Netanyahu said: "What is truly absurd is that in the last 24 hours I spoke with 4 heads of state, including President Trump, and you probably understand in what context, and with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic about our challenges facing the European Union - and also with leaders of Arab countries whose names I cannot mention.".
He added that he also spoke with the Director General of the Peace Council about what is happening in the Gaza Strip, where, he said, "there are developments that are taking an interesting turn.".
The Prime Minister emphasized that in addition to international contacts, he also held three meetings with the State of Israel's security leadership. In his remarks, he sought to illustrate the complexity of freeing up time for the legal process in the midst of war and regional tensions.
At the end of his remarks, Netanyahu wondered about the priorities in judicial time management versus the needs of the state. "Now we're taking 3 hours to discuss how I responded to the headline?" the prime minister asked those present in the courtroom.
Earlier today, the court partially granted Netanyahu's request to begin the hearing of his trial at 4 p.m. and end it at 6 p.m. The hearing began at the time Netanyahu requested, but will end later - at 7 p.m., in accordance with the request of the prosecution.
