The ZAKA hotline has received several calls from concerned family members, who report that their loved ones have set out for the Rashbi Zion in Meron via forest trails. Some of the callers say that their family members were injured along the way and need immediate rescue, while others report that contact with them has been lost and they are not available by phone.
It should be emphasized that following recent rains, the ground in the area has become muddy, slippery, and extremely dangerous. The roads are not regulated and are not suitable for safe passage, and staying in this area poses a real risk to life.
The ZAKA organization, in cooperation with the Israel Police, is currently deploying volunteers, limited to police forces and rescue forces operating within the forest area, with the aim of locating the victims and taking them to a safe place.
The ZAKA organization appeals to the public: Take care of yourself. Don't take unnecessary risks. Your life is more important than anything.
Zvi Hasid, CEO of ZAKA, adds:
I gave instructions to reinforce the ZAKA hotline (1223) with the understanding that there will be calls for help, and since so far the celebration has been going smoothly except for these cases, I strongly believe that parents will explain to children and teenagers the danger of climbing Mount Meron during this period.
