Haifa police officers opened an investigation last week upon receiving a report of suspected blackmail through threats, in which the son, a resident of Haifa, allegedly blackmailed his mother, an elderly woman in her 70s who is also a resident of Haifa, and received sums of money from her estimated to be in the tens of thousands of shekels.
The station's investigators carried out a variety of investigative actions that led yesterday to locating the suspect and his arrest by the station's police officers.
The suspect was detained for questioning and was subsequently imprisoned.

In accordance with the needs of the investigation and its findings, the court granted the police request and extended his detention until Thursday.
