A 50-year-old man was moderately injured today (Friday) after he hit power lines with his paraglider near the town of Sapir. As a result of the impact, the parachutist was injured and electrocuted while trapped on the cables at high altitude.
Rescue forces called to the scene provided the injured person with initial medical treatment in cooperation with the fire department.
After being rescued from the cables, he was evacuated by MDA-Hatzala Air helicopter to Soroka Hospital, suffering from injuries and signs of electrocution.
MDA paramedic Gilad Dotan described the complex moments of the rescue: "We saw a man in his 50s stuck on the electrical cables, conscious, after hitting them with a paraglider, injured and electrocuted.".
Dotan added that he climbed onto a crane with the fire department to provide the parachutist with medical treatment while he was trapped.
MDA noted that the injured man's condition was classified as moderate during the evacuation to the hospital. Fire and rescue forces worked at the scene to ensure the disconnection of the power supply and the safety of the rescue operations from the cables.
