The newspaper 'A-Sharq Al-Awsat' reported that the upcoming elections in the Palestinian Authority will also include elections in Deir al-Balah. The only city where the ground maneuver in Gaza did not cause as much destruction as in the rest of the Gaza Strip - out of fear for the lives of hostages held there.
Hamas does not oppose the elections in question. Estimates are that 150,000 Gazans reside in the city, including tens of thousands of 'displaced persons'.
According to the report in Asharq Al-Awsat, it is claimed that the local lists in Deir al-Balah that bear the names of parties such as Hamas and Fatah are independent local lists.
