National Traffic Unit police officers in Eilat, who were engaged in increased enforcement activity, stopped a private vehicle driver for a routine check.

The policeman asked: "Have you been drinking?""

In the footage from the officer's body camera, the driver is heard realizing the seriousness of his situation and trying to convince the officer to turn a blind eye: "I drank a little... Enough, give me a break... Please... Why did I do this?""

A breathalyzer test found 526 mg of alcohol - more than twice the amount allowed by law.

A thorough investigation revealed that the driver, a 50-year-old resident of Eilat, is a serial traffic offender: this is the third time he has been caught driving under the influence of alcohol, endangering himself and other road users.

Following the findings, the driver was brought in for questioning by traffic inspectors, at the end of which it was decided to imprison him.

At the request of the police, the driver's detention was extended in court for an additional 3 days. The vehicle was impounded.
