Is work being done on the construction of the Haredi city of 'Plugot' on Shabbat? Documentation published by Yoeli Brim on Channel 13 shows infrastructure work in the midst of Shabbat.

The documentation shows heavy equipment, including bulldozers, tractors, and trucks, working to build the infrastructure in the area where the southern city is supposed to be built.

This is an area previously called 'Kiryat Gat-West', but during the last term, former Minister of Construction and Housing Yitzhak Goldknopf changed its designation to an ultra-Orthodox city, intended to help with the housing shortage in the sector.

According to a policy document received by the Southern District Committee about two years ago, the city of 'Pelogot' will cover 11,300 dunams and will be designated for the benefit of 207,000 Haredi residents.

Although the establishment of the Haredi city has not yet been finally approved by the government, in practice extensive infrastructure work is taking place on Shabbat in the area, intended to prepare the land for the construction of residential buildings.

MK Yitzhak Goldknopf, in response to the documentation, said: "I view with great seriousness the infrastructure work that was carried out in the midst of the Sabbath in western Kiryat Gat. Upon receiving the documentation, I began an urgent inspection with the responsible parties in the field.

"Although I am not currently serving as Minister of Construction and Housing, there is no permission for any government body or ministry to violate the status quo and carry out work on Shabbat. I intend to immediately contact the Minister of Housing, Haim Katz, and the 'Arim' company demanding clarification. We will not allow the sanctity of Shabbat to be harmed.".
