Reports from the last few hours indicate that US forces have completed their full withdrawal from the Qasrak base in the Hasakah province (in northeastern Syria). This base is considered the last and largest stronghold where American forces were located. Control of the site was transferred to the 60th Division of the Syrian Army.

The current withdrawal marks the end of the continuous American military presence in Syria that began in 2015. According to reports, the military equipment was moved in recent weeks towards the Kurdistan Region of Iraq as part of an organized evacuation operation.

The Trump administration is leading the move under the perception that direct military presence is no longer necessary:

Integration of the Kurdish forces (SDF): The move was made possible after an agreement to integrate the Kurdish forces into the Syrian army under the administration of the new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Focusing on terrorism from afar: The US administration has stated that it considers the new Syrian government responsible for the war on ISIS, but the US reserves the ability to respond from the air or from bases in Jordan and Iraq if necessary.

In the past two months, other strategic bases have already been evacuated, including:

Al-Tanf Base: The key base in the border triangle with Jordan and Iraq was transferred to Syrian control in February.

Al-Shaddadi base: also evacuated during February.

In talks in Pakistan, Iran demanded that the United States withdraw its forces from Syria. American bases in Syria were the 'target' of Iran's repeated attacks.
