London's Metropolitan Police announced that it has opened a formal investigation and is treating the case as an anti-Semitic hate crime. Two suspects, a 47-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man, have been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the act.
Following the incident, British authorities significantly increased the police presence in the area of the building and among Jewish institutions.
According to initial investigation details provided by a Metropolitan Police spokesman, two suspects wearing dark clothing and covering their faces arrived at the complex shortly after midnight. The suspects threw two bottles containing gasoline, suspected to be Molotov cocktails, at the building, along with a brick intended to shatter the windows of the premises.
Fortunately, the bottles did not ignite as planned, thus preventing a fire that could have ended in a major disaster.
The center's management stated that there were no casualties in the incident and no physical damage was caused to the structure, but the feelings in the community are very difficult given the increase in anti-Semitic incidents in Britain.
