Inflation moderated: the index rose by 0.41% in March, housing prices fell

In line with expectations: The consumer price index rose by 0.4% in March, thus moderating annual inflation from 2% to 1.9%.

The index data published today (Wednesday) by the Central Bureau of Statistics shows that notable price increases were recorded in March in the categories of fresh vegetables, which rose by 5.2%, clothing (3.0%), housing (0.5%), and transportation and communications (0.4%).

The rent for tenants who renewed their contract increased by 2.21%, and for new tenants - apartments in the sample where there was a tenant turnover - increased by 5.91%.

According to estimates, inflation is expected to climb in April following the surge in fuel prices recorded at the end of March as a result of the war with Iran and the rise in oil prices.

Apartment prices fell in January and February by 0.11% compared to December and January.

A breakdown by district shows that in the north prices increased by 0.9%, in the center by 0.5%, in Haifa by 0.3% and in the south by 0.2%. In the Tel Aviv and Jerusalem districts prices decreased by 0.7%.

On an annual basis, compared to January and February last year, prices fell by 1.71%.
