The skies are opening: Wizz Air, Etihad and Blue Bird airlines resume flights

Great news for pilots: The airlines Wizz Air, Etihad Airways and Blue Bird announced today (Friday) the resumption of their flights to and from Israel - as early as next week.

Greek Blue Bird will operate a daily flight from Ben Gurion Airport to Athens and back on Sunday - and will be the first foreign company to resume its operations in Israel since the beginning of the 'Harry's Roar'.

Later this week, the frequency will increase to two daily flights, as well as to additional destinations.

Earlier, Wizz Air announced that it is approving the opening of a tiered ticket purchase option to and from Tel Aviv, starting April 25. The move will be implemented while the company continues to closely monitor the development of the situation on the ground.

Etihad Airways announced the resumption of its flights - as early as April 15, and will fly from Abu Dhabi to Ben Gurion Airport and back. The announcement issued by Etihad stated that the resumption of operations will be "at this stage in the format of two daily flights" to and from Abu Dhabi. 

The Lufthansa aviation group, with its five airlines Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings, has extended the suspension of its flights to and from Israel until May 31.

Most airlines in Europe are based on the recommendations of the European Aviation Safety Agency, which announced after the ceasefire that it is extending its recommendation not to fly to Israel and other countries in the Middle East until April 24.

The American airline United Airlines has announced the cancellation of flights to Israel - until at least September 7, which will affect ticket prices to the US.

This comes after Air Canada also announced the suspension of all flights until September 7.
