Amid recent missile launches toward the State of Israel, rumors began to leak from Pakistan that it was acting as a mediator between the United States and Iran.
Israeli media outlets echoed rumors that the agreement includes a ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon, or that the agreement does not include the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Both sides of the fence issued belligerent statements, Iran announced that it would deny the United States and its allies access to oil and gas for many years. The United States declared that 'years of terrorism, corruption, and death will finally end, Iran's decade of terrorism will not continue under Trump.'.
While Iran is launching missiles at its neighbors and toward the State of Israel, Trump announced: The United States agrees to halt the attacks for two weeks as part of an agreement that will include negotiations on a permanent agreement.
Two hours passed from President Trump's announcement of the ceasefire until the agreement went into effect. During those two hours, Iran launched missiles at Israel, and the media was quick to quote 'Israeli officials who estimated' that this would be the case. However, as soon as the ceasefire went into effect, Iran stopped its attacks, not before the Israeli Air Force also carried out a significant strike flight deep into Iranian territory, with Israeli fighter jets bombing missile launchers that were loaded and aimed at Israel for a 'final salvo.'.
American journalist Shelly Kittelson, who was kidnapped by the terrorist organization Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq, has been 'deported' to the United States.
Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, French citizens, who were arrested about 4 years ago in Iran on charges of "spying for the Mossad" - were released to France and met with President Macron.
As the ceasefire agreement entered into force, a senior US diplomat announced that the ceasefire had been coordinated with Israel. This announcement did not prevent opposition leader Yair Lapid from declaring: "There has never been such a political disaster in our entire history. Israel was not even at the table when decisions were made concerning the core of our national security. The army did everything they asked of it, the public displayed incredible resilience, but Netanyahu failed politically and strategically and did not meet any of the goals he himself set. It will take us years to repair the political and strategic damage that Netanyahu has caused.".
While Israel continues to attack Lebanon, Hezbollah announced that they are committed to the ceasefire agreement and have been laying down their weapons since this morning.
US President Donald Trump announced: "The agreement with Iran is a complete victory for the US; the uranium issue will be fully addressed," and Prime Minister Netanyahu's office responded: Israel supports Trump's decision, the ceasefire does not include Lebanon. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also welcomed the ceasefire and called on all parties to abide by international law and abide by the terms of the agreement "with the aim of paving the way for comprehensive peace in the region.".
Trump said, "We have a deal with 15 clauses, most of which we agreed on. This is a great day for world peace. Iran can begin the rehabilitation process." Prime Minister Netanyahu's office clarified that the United States has committed to Israel that negotiations with Iran will ensure that Iran no longer poses a threat to the United States, Israel, its neighbors, and the world through nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles, and terrorism.
The Arab world mocked Iran for declaring 'victory' after withdrawing from three 'basic' demands on which it had relied: an end to the war rather than a ceasefire, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran refused to agree to throughout the negotiations, and the cutting off of its shipments when Iran demanded that the ceasefire include all terrorist organizations it supports, such as Hezbollah.
Iran announced that an oil refinery was attacked hours after the ceasefire went into effect, on the island of Lavan. Explosions of "unknown origin" also occurred this morning on the island of Sirri, and Iran declared: "Any aggression against the country will be met with a regrettable response.".
Iran's Supreme National Security Council issued a statement: "By the grace of the pure and sacred blood of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, His Eminence Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and thanks to the wise leadership of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and Supreme Commander, His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme National Security Council announces a historic victory for the Iranian nation..." The Supreme Council further announced that this is not the end of the war but a ceasefire: "Our hands remain on the trigger. The ceasefire is not the end of the war, and any mistake by the enemy will be met with full force.".
The Supreme Council attached ten points to its statement that it presents as an opening position for negotiations, saying that the United States' willingness to sit down for negotiations is considered 'agreement' to its demands. The negotiations will begin this Friday in Pakistan. "The enemy has been begging for more than a month to stop the intense fire of Iran and the resistance front. The decision to enter into talks for 15 days stems from a position of superior power on the battlefield. If the enemy's surrender on the ground does not translate into a decisive political achievement in the talks - we will return to fighting shoulder to shoulder until all the nation's demands are met."'
The ten points presented by Iran are:
1. Pledge of Non-Aggression: A principled American commitment to refrain from any future military action against Iran.
2. Sovereignty in the Strait of Hormuz: Continued full Iranian control over the strait, while establishing a "regulated transit protocol" in coordination with Iran's armed forces.
3. Recognition of enrichment: International recognition of Iran's right to enrich uranium on its soil for civilian and security needs.
4. Initial sanctions removal: Immediate lifting of all sanctions imposed directly by the US.
5. Removal of secondary sanctions: The lifting of sanctions on third countries and companies that trade with Iran.
6. Cancellation of Security Council resolutions: Closing all past UN Security Council files and resolutions against Iran.
7. Closing of IAEA files: Completion of all investigations and decisions of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
8. Compensation: Payment of full compensation for the damage caused to the Iranian economy and infrastructure during the last war.
9. Regional withdrawal: The departure of all US combat forces from bases and deployment points in the region (West Asia).
10. Comprehensive ceasefire: Ending the war on all fronts, including "the aggression against the heroic Islamic resistance in Lebanon" (Hezbollah).
