A terrible tragedy in Bulgaria: A group of ultra-Orthodox vacationers from Israel were involved in a fatal car accident today (Monday) near the city of Silistra, in which Mrs. Leah Yocheved Singer, 36, from Jerusalem, was killed.

The accident, which involved several vehicles, occurred as the group, who were staying for the Passover holiday at a hotel in the Varna resort area, were returning from a prayer service for Rabbi Eliezer Papu, the owner of the Pela Yoetz in the city of Silistra.

Local emergency forces called to the scene were forced to declare the passenger dead from cardiac arrest, while four other passengers were injured to varying degrees and were evacuated to area hospitals.

The ZAKA International Division team, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is working to bring the body to Israel as soon as possible.

Upon receipt of the report at ZAKA's international hotline, the international division teams began working in close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Representatives of the organization and the consulate are now working with the hospitals where the injured are being treated.

Vice President of Volunteers and Operations at United Hatzalah, Lazer Heyman, is in the hospital in Bulgaria, assisting the family of those injured in the serious accident.
