Ziv Agmon, the Prime Minister's former spokesman, who resigned from his position following the publication of racist statements, released a public apology video today (Wednesday).
Agmon claimed that the published comments were written about five years ago, after he returned from a trip to Morocco, as part of a private WhatsApp correspondence with his friend Tzachi Dabush, and that it was, he said, a "private joke" that should not have been said.
He added that he "fully understands" that people were hurt, and asked for forgiveness from those who were hurt by his words.
Agmon also claimed that Dabush "chose to release and leak the conversations" out of personal interest and out of a desire to harm him. Agmon said that "racism is beyond me," emphasizing that he is not a racist, "I am far from it. The Moroccan community is a magnificent community," according to him, a community that contributes to Israeli society in many areas.
He also claimed that the things attributed to him "do not reflect" what he really thinks, and spoke about the education he received at home in love of humanity, Zionism, and service to the state.
He praised the prime minister for his leadership, stating that he was "a leader who emerged as a prophet, stood on his feet and fought battle after battle for the State of Israel, to bring all of us, together with the heroic IDF soldiers and the pilots and squadrons, to victory.".
