Yesterday (Tuesday), the Navy attacked a target in Beirut under the direction of the Intelligence Branch and the Northern Command, and killed Hajj Youssef Ismail Hashem, commander of the "Southern Front" of the Hezbollah terrorist organization.
Hashem was the most senior figure responsible for carrying out terrorist activities against Israeli citizens and managing the military campaign against IDF forces in southern Lebanon.
Hajj Youssef Ismail Hashem is considered a commander with over 40 years of operational experience and one of the pillars of the terrorist organization. He took over as commander of the Southern Front after the assassination of his predecessor, Ali Karki, who was killed along with Hassan Nasrallah in Operation Northern Arrows.
Over the years, Hashem held key positions and was responsible for the regional units 'Nasser', 'Aziz' and 'Badr' - the units responsible for direct fighting against Israel and firing rockets towards the north.

The IDF emphasizes that as the frontline commander, Hashem not only commanded the launch of rockets and hostile drones, but also led Hezbollah's reconstruction efforts after the blows it suffered in recent months.
""The perpetrator promoted thousands of terrorist plots against Israeli citizens," the IDF spokesman said, adding that his elimination constitutes "a significant damage to the organization's ability to carry out attacks and conduct continued fighting in southern Lebanon.".
