Significant news for drivers: The Ministry of Transportation, through the Cross-Israel Company, has begun work to expand Highway 6 and upgrade the Daniel Interchange - one of the main bottlenecks in the national road network.
The project, promoted as part of the 'Connecting Israel' vision led by the Minister of Transportation, constitutes another step in transforming Highway 6 into a continuous, fast and safe transportation artery, connecting the regions of the country and strengthening the connection between the center, the periphery and the Negev.
This is one of the largest and most significant transportation infrastructure projects in Israel, with an investment of approximately 850 million shekels. As part of the project, an additional lane will be added in each direction of traffic between the Ben Shemen Interchange and the Sorek Interchange, for a length of approximately 40 kilometers, in order to address the heavy traffic loads and improve traffic flow on the route.
At the same time, the Daniel Interchange will be upgraded, through the construction of a full grade separation, which will allow separation between traffic flows on Highway 1 and Highway 6, and will significantly improve safety, efficiency, and connectivity between the arteries.
The work is being carried out by Danya Cebus, which won the tender, and includes, among other things, the construction of bridges, widening lanes, upgrading lighting and drainage systems, landscaping work, and implementing advanced safety solutions.
The project is expected to be completed in 2029.

Highway 6, used daily by approximately 260,000 vehicles, is the transportation backbone of the State of Israel. Its expansion and upgrading of the interchanges along it are expected to lead to a significant reduction in traffic congestion, shorter travel times, improved reliability, and significant economic savings for the economy.
The current project joins a series of strategic initiatives promoted by the Ministry of Transportation along Highway 6, including the expansion of the central section along dozens of kilometers, extensions to the north and south, and the promotion of advanced transportation solutions.
Upon their completion, a full transportation continuum of approximately 220 kilometers without traffic lights will be possible for the first time - from the Western Galilee to the Eastern Negev.
Minister of Transportation: "Highway 6 is the transportation backbone of the State of Israel, and its expansion is a central part of the 'Connecting Israel' vision, which aims to connect the regions of the country, reduce gaps and create equal access to opportunities. Upgrading the Daniel Interchange and expanding the road will bring real relief to traffic congestion, shorten travel times and strengthen the connection between the center and the periphery and the Negev. We continue to lead a real revolution in transportation infrastructure in Israel, for the benefit of the public, the economy and the future of all of us.".
