Drama at 'Laniado' in Kiryat Sanz: A patient who was smoking in a hospital room caused a fire - two injured

A fire broke out this evening (Tuesday) in one of the departments at the Laniado Medical Center in Kiryat Sanz in Netanya, apparently after a patient smoked in the hospital room.

Two patients in the room were injured in the fire. One is in moderate condition and the other is in light condition. 

Firefighters from the Netanya station worked to extinguish the fire that broke out in an internal medicine department at the hospital.

Upon arrival of fire crews, the ward was evacuated of patients. Firefighters worked to locate trapped people and clear smoke from the building.

A spokesperson for the hospital said: "Following an incident whose details are still unclear - a patient in one of the departments, who apparently smoked in the hospital room, was injured by a fire that broke out. Another patient who was in the room was injured by the fire that broke out.

"The automatic fire extinguishing system was activated in the department, and the fire was extinguished very quickly.".

The hospital's statement further stated that "there is no danger to additional patients. In light of the immediate actions of the hospital's emergency team and firefighters, there is no need to evacuate the ward.".
