J.D. Vance, Vice President of the United States, said in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday evening that the Iranians are not willing to recognize some of President Donald Trump's red lines.
Earlier today, the second round of negotiations between the country's representatives took place in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to the Vice President, "in some ways the talks went well, with an agreement to meet later.".
Vance made it clear that President Trump has set before him the goal of Iran not having nuclear weapons, and to that end the American administration will act both diplomatically and in other ways.
At the end of today's discussions, which ended after two and a half hours, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that progress had been made in the talks. "We have reached agreements on the main principles with the United States. Both sides will work on the documents of the agreement.".
He added: "A new window of opportunity will open. We hope that the negotiations will lead to a sustainable solution, which will serve the interests of the relevant parties.".
At the same time, he said: "Iran remains fully prepared to defend itself against any threat or act of aggression. The consequences of any such attack against Iran will not be limited to its borders.".
Araqchi also noted that there are issues that are controversial. "We had more serious talks than in the previous round. The atmosphere was constructive, and new ideas were raised and discussed in full seriousness.".
An American source told Reuters that the Iranians are expected to submit detailed proposals in the next two weeks, in order to close the gaps that exist between them and the United States.
