Thousands of housing units, a huge sports complex, parks, a traffic light and a renovated boulevard: The most comprehensive and expensive development plan in the history of the Adam (Geva Binyamin) settlement - 'Adam in Motion', is launching today (Tuesday), with an investment of approximately 200 million shekels, led by the Binyamin Regional Council and the Ministry of Construction and Housing.
The plan is expected to significantly change the town and the entire region in the coming years. The Binyamin council says this is just the beginning, and similar agreements in other towns are on the agenda.
The Adam settlement is located a few kilometers east of Jerusalem, and has been experiencing significant growth in recent years with approximately 600 housing units already under development. The multi-year agreement, which is being launched today, is designed to ensure that, alongside the accelerated demographic growth, the quality of life and infrastructure for all residents will be significantly upgraded.
In total, approximately 2,700 housing units are expected to be built in the Adam settlement as part of the development agreement. At the same time, the council is promoting another project, currently in the planning phase, to build 3,000 housing units between Adam and Neve Yaakov.
In order to allow for the massive construction and the vehicle traffic that will come with it, the Binyamin Council and the Ministry of Construction and Housing placed great emphasis on the issue of transportation. Adam Square was demolished to allow for the increase in the number of vehicles.
Adam Boulevard, the main street at the entrance to the settlement, will be doubled and turned into a two-lane highway, with a bike path and landscaping at a cost of approximately 22 million shekels.
The entire entrance to the settlement will also be upgraded, along with security components that will be added to the settlement, with an investment of approximately nine million shekels, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense. This section will also include paving security roads, technological security components and perimeter fencing. In addition, road layering work will be carried out, pedestrian crossings will be added and parking lots for public buildings will be added.
A significant portion of the government budget is being directed to upgrading recreation in the community. A new sports and recreation complex will be built on an area of approximately ten dunams. The complex will include multi-purpose sports fields and fitness facilities.
The community will build the first adventure park of its kind in Binyamin, as well as a dog park, with an investment of millions of shekels. Additional millions will also be invested in a central public area that will include facilities and seating areas.
The issue of future education was also addressed in the plan. Approximately 18 million NIS was immediately allocated for comprehensive earthworks and infrastructure development to prepare the area for the construction of essential public institutions. The area will be used in the future to build kindergartens and schools.
To support the demographic growth in recent years, 19 million shekels have been allocated for water and sewage infrastructure. A main discharge facility and a new discharge line will be built to prevent failures and prepare for population growth.
