Against the backdrop of a record year in demand for train travel - with approximately 72 million trips made in 2025 - and in preparation for the expected growth in the coming years, the Ministry of Transportation and Israel Railways have begun a significant upgrade of the Ashdod Ad Halom station, where demand is expected to increase by approximately one million additional passengers in the coming years.

The cost of the upgrade is 28 million shekels and is expected to be completed in 2028.

The station upgrade work includes a significant expansion of the passenger hall to approximately 215 square meters, along with the addition of turnstiles, screening stations, and an expansion of the ticket office space, which will improve the flow of passengers entering and exiting the station.

In addition, for the well-being of passengers, and in order to create a pleasant waiting area, the station cafeteria area will be expanded, which will also include an outdoor and indoor area, where new benches and seating will be placed.

Additionally, an additional protected space measuring approximately 40 square meters will be established at the station in the southern part of the station with direct and quick access from the passenger platforms, and a comprehensive upgrade of the existing station infrastructure will be carried out, including fire safety systems, electricity, and the addition of restrooms.

All upgrades are made with an emphasis on all the most advanced accessibility features.

As part of the station upgrade trend, Israel Railways also completed the upgrade of Beit Yehoshua, Beit Shemesh and Rehovot stations in the past year, and is working to upgrade Caesarea-Pardes Hanna, Be'er Yaakov and other stations.

The upgrade of the Ashdod Ad-Halom station is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2028.

Minister of Transportation Miri Regev: "We continue to invest in infrastructure that connects Israeli citizens to employment, education and leisure centers from the center to the south. Upgrading the Ashdod Ad Halom station is part of an overall concept of strengthening the railway as a transportation backbone, while improving the travel experience, increasing capacity and preparing for growing demand. This is advanced, accessible and safe public transportation for the benefit of the entire public.""
