The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, affiliated with Hezbollah, reported this morning (Friday) that the United States is urging Lebanon to suspend the work of the committee supervising the ceasefire in Lebanon - and to establish a new committee of a civilian nature, which will focus on direct negotiations with Israel.

Another report, in the Lebanese newspaper Al-Diyar, stated that Israel wants to conduct direct, high-level political negotiations with it. According to the publication, the negotiations will take place separately from the ceasefire supervision committee.

It was also claimed that Israel is not interested in French sponsorship of the negotiations, and prefers that they be held under the auspices of the United States and a third country, similar to the talks taking place with Syria.

It was also emphasized that the goal of the talks would be to reach a security-political agreement that would pave the way for entering a peace process. According to the sources, if Lebanon does not agree to such negotiations, it will anger President Trump and "Lebanon will bear the consequences.".
