Yossi Musanjad, CEO of Hamat Gader, was interviewed today (Sunday) on the "Israel Morning" program on Channel 14 and revealed that the Prison Service has already begun a professional and serious examination of establishing a prison surrounded by crocodiles.
""A delegation from the Israeli Prison Service, led by the deputy commissioner of the service, arrived here last week," said Musanjad. "They came to study the issue of keeping and raising crocodiles from professional aspects - nutrition, living conditions and ongoing management of such a farm. This is a unique field of knowledge, which does not exist in this form in Israel except here.".
Despite the project's daunting envelope, Musanjad also presented the logistical challenges involved.
He said crocodiles are cold-blooded animals, whose activity wanes in the winter months – which could affect their effectiveness as a continuous security measure. "A crocodile is a dangerous animal, and I wouldn't enter an enclosure like that in the winter, either, but it's definitely a consideration that needs to be taken into account.".
The CEO also noted that establishing such an array is no small matter: Israel currently has no "price list" for crocodiles, and trade in them is very limited. "We contributed our knowledge to the best of our ability. Ultimately, establishing such an array is a very complex project, with many security and safety implications. The ball is currently in the court of decision-makers at the Ministry of National Security and the Prison Service.".
