Justice Minister Yariv Levin today (Tuesday) addressed the High Court of Justice and asked to once again examine the candidacy of the Judicial Complaints Commissioner, retired Judge Asher Kola, to accompany the investigation into the "Mazrit Affair.".

Levin wrote to the High Court judges: "I have reached an impasse, requesting to re-examine the possibility of appointing Kola to be in charge of the investigation into the MPA - during which he will take a leave of absence from the position of Commissioner.".

Levin notes in his letter that he contacted dozens of people from different organizations, but encountered difficulty in locating a suitable person for the position.

""A month after the esteemed court's ruling and nearly two months since the investigation began, it was found that assigning the role to a person who meets all the criteria set by the court is not applicable. The role could not be assigned to a retired judge, and no senior civil servant with experience was found who cumulatively meets all the state criteria set by the court.".

He suggests that the court approve that retired Judge Kola will accompany the investigation - and that the latter take a leave of absence from his position for a predetermined period.

""In this way, no contradiction will arise between fulfilling his role as an investigator and fulfilling his role as the public's ombudsman for judges.".
