Shas is exacerbating the crisis with the coalition: Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri declared today (Monday) at a faction meeting that his party will not support the budget passed by the government, "as a protest against the deliberate exclusion of Haredi children from the food stamp project.".
Deri said at the faction meeting: "It is impossible for a poor Haredi child not to receive the minimum that a poor Arab child receives, as the finance officials are demanding.".
He mentioned: "Last year, the food stamp project assisted 400,000 eligible families from all sectors: immigrants, the elderly, Arabs, the periphery, and the ultra-Orthodox - all according to professional eligibility tests by government ministries.
""Now, in a strange and outrageous way, the Ministry of Finance insists on changing the criteria so that only ultra-Orthodox families are included. This is cruel abuse of the most vulnerable families, whose only 'sin' is being ultra-Orthodox. As long as the issue is not resolved, Shas will not support the budget.".
