A political 'hijacking' attempt in the elections for the Likud branch council in Elad failed at the last minute.
This was after local activists worked to remove Attorney Yechiel Vakenin's list from the voters' list, in order to prevent him from running and preserve the old centers of power.
In a quick response, Attorney Vaaknin filed an urgent petition with the movement's court.
The judges accepted his arguments and ordered the list to be returned to the race immediately.
The successful legal move led to a wave of support for Eknin: City Council member Yitzhak Chala, volunteers from Ihud Hatzalah, and many residents announced their support for his election.
The elections being held today (Tuesday) are shaping up to be a direct battle between the old "business" and those who define themselves as "representatives of the residents.".
Nearly 140,000 Likud members will vote today at about 85 polling stations across the country - and will elect the branch councils and the new Likud Central Committee members.
This is a move that will determine the map of forces in the party in the coming years, and may immediately affect the familiar politicians and change the rules of the game from end to end in the status of the veteran players.
The polling stations opened at 9:00 a.m. and closed at 9:00 p.m. In the small branches, the polling stations will close at 7:00 p.m.
