The Jerusalem District Court extended the detention of a 25-year-old young Haredi man from Jerusalem, the son of a well-known rabbi, for one day tonight (Saturday night) - until tomorrow at 2:00 PM - who is suspected of attempting to kidnap and committing serious offenses against two young girls.

The young man was arrested by police detectives last Sunday. His detention was extended until Thursday, in order to complete further investigative actions - but then he was released to house arrest, due to a mistake by the police station, after an illegal identification order was made.

The arrest was made after Judge Chaya Zandberg ruled that although the round-up was allegedly carried out illegally, the detainee's identification was carried out by external parties - and that he was suspected of serious offenses that did not allow his release.

The arrest was made after the police received two complaints in recent days from young women who reported a suspect who had assaulted them. Following this, investigative and intelligence officials from the Lev Habira police station began vigorous investigative activities - with the aim of revealing the suspect's identity and obtaining an arrest warrant against him from the court.

Last Sunday, detectives located the vehicle the suspect was driving in central Jerusalem, and he was arrested and taken for questioning at the police station, on suspicion of committing serious acts using force and threats, attempted kidnapping, and assault.

According to the suspicion, on October 29, the suspect drove his vehicle at night near a bus stop in a neighborhood in northern Jerusalem, where a young girl was standing at the time. The suspect approached her and asked for her help in finding the lighter in his vehicle.

When she resisted, he pushed her towards the vehicle, committed a serious act against her, threatened her with a knife - and forced her into the passenger seat. With great resourcefulness, the minor managed to escape the vehicle and the suspect fled the scene.

In another incident that allegedly occurred two days later, a girl was walking down the street in the dead of night. At one point, she noticed a car in which a suspect was sitting, watching her - and suddenly, the suspect driving the car got out and began chasing her until he caught up with her, resorted to violence against her, and grabbed her by the neck.

In this case too, great resourcefulness and the victim's screams over his actions drove the suspect - who quickly fled in his vehicle.
