The National Cyber Directorate announced today (Wednesday) that in recent weeks a wave of Iranian cyber attacks against Israeli companies and entities has been identified.
Among the organizations affected in recent weeks was the Shamir Assaf Harofeh Hospital on Yom Kippur. Although an Eastern European group claimed responsibility for this attack, an investigation by the Cyber Division revealed that it originated in Iran.
The investigation by the system also revealed that in many recent attacks, the attackers used stolen or leaked usernames and passwords to infiltrate systems.
In most cases, there was no functional disruption, but in some cases, information was leaked from organizations.
Head of the National Cyber Directorate Yossi Karadi: "Thanks to the cooperation, rapid information sharing, and focused response, the incidents were closed quickly and efficiently, and wider damage to the economy was prevented. In the Shamir Hospital incident, beyond the information leak, the very attempt to harm a hospital in Israel constitutes crossing a red line, which could also have led to harm to human life.".
