About a week after the start of Phase One of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and after the great excitement and joy over every abductee returning home, it is now possible to write from reason and not just emotion.
On the face of it, Hamas - as a terrorist organization that has carved the destruction of Israel on its flag - was not supposed to release the hostages in its hands, especially not the living ones. In the cruel world of terrorism, it is difficult to see an organization giving up most of its powerful "assets" at once and so quickly.
Beyond the return of the hostages, the second part of the agreement between Israel and Hamas also includes a commitment by Hamas to disarm and transfer the Strip to external control. Here too, there is no logic or explanation for how a terrorist organization would sign a document that strips it of all its power and strength.
But when military and political pressure closes and squeezes, sometimes they also seal off logic. But there is something else beyond that.
Over the years, when terrorist organizations, especially Islamic terrorist organizations, are pushed into a corner, they tend to fold and buy time to prepare themselves for the next campaign. The greater the pressure, the greater the folding and concession, but the malicious intentions always remain in full force.
Already now, as the military and political pressure has eased somewhat, voices are being heard from Hamas complaining about the ease and speed with which the live hostages were returned to Israel, and this is the main reason Hamas is not doing its part in returning the dead hostages. The more these voices grow, the more difficult it will be for Hamas to advance to the second phase, despite the enormous pressure that will be exerted on it.
After all the agreements and signatures, the murderous lust is not going anywhere and already this week it has claimed the lives of two soldiers. Doesn't it make sense to violate an agreement? These are assumptions that do not belong to terrorist organizations. At any given moment that the enemy can massacre us, he will do so without blinking - especially after being forced to sign a surrender agreement on his part.
The US president put all his weight and his tongue on the ceasefire agreement that was signed, which led him to force a weak response from Israel for the murder of its two soldiers, all so that the sham agreement would not be undermined. Hamas knows how to take advantage of Trump's over-enthusiasm to pick up a few more small "victories" along the way. We should just remember, their victories are our blood.
Up the road, Israel will have to deal, on the one hand, with Trump's desire to preserve his achievement in the ceasefire, and on the other hand, with Gazan terrorism that will stretch the rope to the limit in order to satisfy its murderous hunger.
It is clear to any reasonable person that the ceasefire agreement signed against Hamas's will very soon stand the test of reality, but it is still unclear how many times Israel will have to bite its lips to allow Trump to indulge in a few more days of agreement.
First, the American president handed over the keys to the 'gates of hell'; then he came up with the voluntary immigration plan. After none of them were used, we were left with about two million rabid terrorists, waiting beyond the fence for the day and time when they could reclaim their dignity and their murderous lust.
Agreements? Signatures? That fits the Western DNA. For the terrorists, it's just another temporary piece of paper until renewed strength.
As long as we don't completely eliminate the cancer, no agreement will prevent it from hitting us again. In one way or another.
