Ahmed Nassar, mayor of Araba, was recorded at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the 'October 2000 events', calling the State of Israel an "enemy" and calling for the Palestinian struggle to continue - in a time of war.
As part of the commemoration of this day, yesterday the mayor of Araba, Ahmed Nassar, arrived in Sakhnin and spoke at the grave of one of those killed in those events.
The mayor of Sakhnin stood next to him, and there the mayor of Araba said the following serious things, which are not meant to be ambiguous: "Today we are a people scattered in all directions and fragmented and suffering from a series of troubles, whether it is in Gaza or 'inside' (within Israel), because we have reached a place here where we have understood exactly how vile our enemy is, how barbaric our enemy is... I think there needs to be a clear understanding of the stage, and an emphasis on the fact that we continue on the same path of struggle and maintaining our presence and presence here, even if things have calmed down in one way or another here or there...""
Interior Ministry Director General Israel Ozan sent a strong letter of protest to the mayor today (Monday), following the serious remarks he made.
In his letter, Ozan wrote that these were "inflammatory and degrading statements, which are inappropriate for an elected official acting under the laws of the State of Israel and under the symbols of its rule.".
He added that these things take on added significance as the State of Israel fights for its existence against its enemies and marks two years since the brutal and horrific massacre carried out by the worst of its enemies.
""It is unthinkable that the head of an authority in the State of Israel would express himself in this way towards the state under whose authority he acts. This is a serious statement that harms public trust and the foundations of local government. I intend to examine all of the Interior Ministry's activities vis-à-vis the Araba Municipality under your leadership and recommend to the Minister of the Interior that he examine the delay and halting of the budgets and support provided by the Interior Ministry and the State of Israel.".
