In the video, he responded to a viewer's question: "If, God forbid, a war breaks out - who will win, the Egyptian army or the IDF?""
Khalil, who has lived in the US since the mid-1990s, did not hesitate - and said: "If, God forbid, war breaks out, there will be destruction. It is possible that the Egyptian army will attack Israel and kill many of them, but in the end, Israel will achieve a crushing victory.".
Continuing his remarks - which were quoted on Channel 7 - Khalil attacked the prevailing Arab narrative about the strength of the Egyptian army. "I won't sit here like an idiot and say the army-the army. Leave you alone about firepower and the reports by which they measure how many soldiers you have, how many tanks you have, how many planes you have. That's what they measure, but they don't measure the real power, the real fighting capability of the armies.".
Khalil warned of the heavy price of criticizing the army in Egypt: "Even if someone from the army, of course in Egypt, can criticize the Egyptian army - he goes straight to jail. But I will not tell you this lie.".
According to him, the IDF has been fighting continuously since the establishment of the state, while the Egyptian army has not taken part in a significant war since 1973. "I know the strength of the Egyptian army. I know that it has not fought since 1973. I know that it failed in the pursuit of a thousand terrorists that it pursued for years. The Israeli army has not stopped fighting since 1948. Egypt has not entered the war at all since 1973.".
Khalil added that in the event of a conflict, Egypt would face a powerful coalition. "Another important point - America is a guarantor of the peace agreement. America will be against Egypt. The Egyptian army will be crushed. The Israelis and the Americans will crush them if Egypt dares to enter the war. I don't want war, nor do I want the Egyptian army to be crushed.".
The video drew sharp reactions, with some commenters attacking Khalil for "betrayal," while others praised his courage.
Majdi Khalil is a well-known analyst, a member of the advisory board of the American Institute for Middle East Studies, and a human rights activist. He is frequently interviewed by Arab and international channels.
