Brigadier General (res.) Ofer Winter published a post on Facebook today (Tuesday) in which he defended the appointment of David Zini to the position of head of the Shin Bet - and attacked the appointments of security personnel over the years who held an erroneous security concept.
Winter wrote cynically: "It's time to stop appointing Messianic people to the most senior positions in the country" - specifically targeting left-wing people.
""For three decades, a political-security policy has been promoted here by Messianic extremists who are unwilling to look reality in the eye. The Messianics are the ones who sold us Oslo as a vision of peace, and instead we got terror and hundreds murdered in bomb attacks; these Messianics are the ones who sold us a vision of two states for two peoples and brought upon us exploding buses and hundreds of 'peace victims.'".
He added, linking the policy to the consequences on the ground: "The Messianics made us flee Lebanon, abandoned our SLA allies and abandoned Lebanon to the terrorist army of Hezbollah. The Messianics told us in beautiful words that we must 'disengage' from Gaza - when in reality it was about expelling Jews, people of action, farmers, the salt of the earth, people of labor and peace - and abandoning Gaza to the terrorist organization Hamas.".
""The Messianics have been explaining for years that a settlement needs to be reached and that silence will be met with silence, when in reality this is a shameful capitulation to Gazan terrorism, which brought upon us the murderousness of October 7th.".
Winter wondered how those security officials dare to criticize Zini's expected appointment.
""The Messianics are the ones who today dare to speak about the danger of appointing a 'Messianic' Shin Bet chief, without a shred of modesty. David Zini is a brave warrior and commander who saw and sees reality as it is. In his actions, he has proven time and time again that he is more than worthy of being Shin Bet chief. He knows who the enemy is and will never indulge in the illusion of imaginary peace.".
""It's time to stop categorizing people according to irrelevant criteria. Enough. A little more modesty. It's time for a realistic person to head the Shin Bet. For the sake of the people of Israel. For the future of our children. Together and only together will we win.".
