The government today (Sunday) approved the appointment of Minister Haim Katz to the position of Minister of Housing on a permanent basis - after the period of filling the vacancy ended.
Minister Haim Katz will serve as Minister of Construction and Housing in addition to his duties as Minister of Tourism and Acting Minister of Health and Minister of Welfare and Social Security - a total of four ministerial positions at the same time.
As part of the appointment, a letter signed by him was presented to the ministers and then to the Knesset members, stating that upon United Torah Judaism's return to the coalition, he would immediately resign from the position.
After MK Yitzhak Goldknopf resigned in June, following the defeat of the law to dissolve the Knesset, Haim Katz was appointed Acting Minister of Construction and Housing in his place - until further notice, similar to the outline that followed the retirement of Itamar Ben-Gvir.
After the government's approval, the appointment will need to be approved by the Knesset. It is likely that the Shas faction will vote in favor. It is not yet clear how MKs Degel and the Porosh-Eichler faction will vote.
