Yaakov Wider, a member of the Bnei Brak City Council and chairman of the Likud faction, today (Wednesday) addressed a query to Mayor Hanoch Seibert and the municipal legal office, following allegedly serious information that he had received, according to which municipal funds were used to distribute gifts to subscribers of prominent party publications identified with senior municipal officials.
Vider emphasized that this is a serious act that raises serious concerns about the illegal use of public funds, and not for the benefit of all city residents, but rather for the benefit of a small handful of businessmen who benefit directly.
Vider: "Instead of the property tax money of Bnei Brak residents being directed to improving education, security, infrastructure and cleanliness - it seems that it is being used to serve the personal interests of a small group of businessmen.".
In his appeal, Vider demanded that the mayor and the legal bureau respond - among other things: whether this is true, who approved it and what the amount was, and whether, insofar as the mayor did not know about it - he intends to contact the police, as required by law.

Vider emphasized: "The Bnei Brak municipality's treasury is not the private property of a group of businessmen - but is supposed to serve all the city's residents and their needs, and on a personal note: I thought that at least in the month of Elul - the combinations and celebrations at the expense of the residents of Bnei Brak would stop, but unfortunately, apparently the businessmen simply cannot do otherwise.".
It should be noted that the local authority and party financing laws, as well as the case law, explicitly prohibit the use of municipal or public funds for party journalism.
