MK Galit Distel wrote more than three and a half years ago that she would never sit with Gideon Sa'ar in the same party - and declared that it was possible to "take a screenshot.".
And this is what Distel wrote at the time: "Take a screenshot - Gideon Sa'ar and I will never sit together in the same party for sure. Either I will fight him with all-out war from within or I will leave.".
She added: "Either way - this specific person is fundamentally unacceptable to me and to anyone who truly belongs to a liberal national camp.".
Yesterday, after the Likud central committee approved the merger of Sa'ar's party with the largest party in Israel, many on social media and in the media outlets pulled out the MK's old tweet - and wondered whether she would indeed resign now, with Sa'ar's return to the party.
Distel decided not to remain silent, and attacked the media outlets, including the right-wing Channel 14, that mocked her: "When a Channel 14 reporter joins the fake celebration, it's already starting to get disturbing.".
In the announcement clarifying that she would not resign, she wrote: "I'm sorry to ruin the 'screen capture' celebration. A year ago, long before Saar talked about returning to Likud, I publicly suggested he return. I did it on social media. I did it in the media.
In fact, I have made it clear on every possible platform that the war is a game changer, that I am changing my mind, and that any reinforcement of the government, including Gideon Sa'ar, is critical. On Gale Israel, I told Matti Tochfeld that I am leaving the bad blood behind and that the addition of Gideon Sa'ar - if it ever happens in the future - is welcome.
I wrote on Twitter that if Sa'ar ever wants to return not only to the coalition but to Likud itself - I'm in favor. All of this was a year ago.
When other media channels hide this rather relevant information, to create a not-so-accurate image that 'the Knesset member promised to resign if Sa'ar joins' because of a tweet from almost 4 years ago - I'm used to it. Of course they will hide the fact that I changed my mind a long time ago and publicly suggested that he return to Likud.
That's how they work. There's nothing new under the sun. But when a Channel 14 reporter joins in on the fake celebration, it starts to get disturbing.
I think Channel 14 is making an unprecedented revolution in Israeli media. It's an important and welcome channel that provides adequate representation to millions of citizens. But a complete fake against a Likud MK just to vent? Not cool at all.
In an extensive column on Front, reporter Sivan Yehezkel announced that I had deleted the famous "screenshot" tweet about Gideon Saar, with a particularly thick implication that "I was caught" and therefore I was obscuring evidence.
But the tweet exists. It wasn't deleted and came back. It was never deleted. I didn't touch it. It exists.
"The digital department quickly realized the embarrassing and unprofessional mistake made by that reporter - and deleted the article.".
Distel attached to her post a screenshot of a headline in Maariv, from exactly a year ago, where she declared that she supported Sa'ar's joining.
