After twenty years of stagnation and promises: Minister of Finance and Minister of Defense Bezalel Smotrich approved the historic E1 plan – 3,401 new housing units in Ma'ale Adumim.
On the occasion of the dramatic approval, Finance Minister Smotrich, Yesha Council Chairman Yisrael Gantz, and Maale Adumim Mayor Guy Yifrach held a special press conference in Maale Adumim today (Thursday), where they made a historic statement on the implementation of the E1 plan.
The plan, which Minister Smotrich presented today, comes after more than 20 years of political stalemate, due to aggressive pressure from countries around the world and the Palestinian Authority.
The plan, which effectively connects Ma'ale Adumim to Jerusalem and interrupts the Arab continuity between Ramallah and Bethlehem, is considered the "final nail in the coffin" of the idea of a Palestinian state.
From the perspective of the Palestinians and the international community, this is a strategic area without which it is not possible to establish a Palestinian state with a capital in East Jerusalem.
At the same time, the 'Zipor Midbar' neighborhood in Ma'ale Adumim is adding another 3,515 housing units. Together - 6,916 new housing units that will double the city's population and bring in about 35,000 new residents in the coming years.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich: "Anyone in the world who tries today to recognize a Palestinian state will receive an answer from us on the ground. Not in documents, not in decisions or declarations - but in facts. In the facts of homes, neighborhoods, roads and Jewish families building a life.".
""They will talk about a Palestinian dream – and we will continue to build a Jewish reality. This reality finally buries the idea of a Palestinian state, because there is nothing to recognize and no one to recognize.".
""I call from here on this important day to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the time has come to apply Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, to put the idea of dividing the land on the back burner forever, and to ensure that by September the hypocritical leaders in Europe will have nothing to recognize."
Ma'ale Adumim Mayor Guy Ifrach: "The new neighborhood will be built in accordance with the vision of Israel's leaders - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, the late, who drew its borders with his own hands and emphasized its strategic importance.
