Communications Minister Shlomo Kari contacted Supreme Court President Justice Yitzhak Amit to fulfill the legal duty of consultation regarding the appointment.

In his letter, he defined Amit as "acting Supreme President," since he claims he does not recognize his appointment as president.

The president's assistant, Dina Zahuri, refused to forward the letter until it was corrected and written "Supreme President.".

Keri sent another letter in which he mentioned "Judge Yitzhak Amit", but this letter was also rejected.

Kari wrote on his X-network account: "Etiquette has meaning, but it cannot be imposed on me. In particular, no citizen of Israel has yet seen the appointment letter signed...""

He ordered his office to respond to the colleague that, from his perspective, the duty of consultation had been fulfilled, and that the colleague's failure to consult did not negate the Minister's authority to act on the matter.

In a tweet, he said: "This is how I instructed my office to respond to Judge Yitzhak Amit:

  1. The minister sought to clarify that, as far as he was concerned, the duty to consult had been fulfilled, while Judge Amit was not fulfilling his legal duty to advise the minister on the matter.
  2. Judge Amit's evasion of his duty does not deprive the Minister of the authority granted to him to remove the chairman of the committee from her position, if the Minister finds that she is not functioning properly.
  3. The minister added that the judge's decision to hide behind titles, at a time when there is an urgent public need to operate the administrative infrastructure for public broadcasting, reveals a priority order that promotes the pompous manners of the judicial establishment, which is disconnected from the people, over the public interest.
  4. In any case, if he does not receive a letter within 14 days advising him on how to act in accordance with the provisions of the law, the Minister will thereby view Judge Amit's position as one who refrained from advising or as one who opposes the dismissal and that the duty of consultation has been fulfilled.
  5. "In closing, I would like to convey to a fellow judge on behalf of the Minister of Communications that the court is subject to the law and that judicial decisions that violate the law will not be upheld. This is true for rulings that purport to convene the committee to select judges, thwart the removal of the Attorney General, or legalize corruption in the process of appointing the search committee for a corporation.".
