The new aid distribution mechanism has been launched: Residents in Gaza began receiving aid packages today (Tuesday) at two distribution centers - in Tel a-Sultan and on the Morag road in the southern Gaza Strip.

Hundreds of families arrived today to receive aid packages designed for 5 people and will last 5-7 days. The new food distribution plan is designed to prevent Hamas from taking control of the aid entering the Gaza Strip.

According to the Gaza Humanitarian Fund, approximately 8,000 boxes have been distributed so far.

A few hours after the opening of the distribution center in Tel a-Sultan, Palestinians reported losing control of one of the humanitarian aid distribution complexes, when thousands of Palestinian civilians broke into the complex.

According to the Palestinian report, during the violation, IDF helicopters opened fire to disperse the crowd, after the crowd arrived at the distribution center in an unregulated manner. In Gaza, it is reported that the center was destroyed and its contents looted.

Following the incident, according to the Palestinian report, the American civil society members responsible for securing the compound withdrew, and activity at the site was immediately halted.

A source in Gaza told News 12 about the chaos at the distribution center: "The severe overcrowding and congestion led to the theft of everything. They stole the aid, the equipment, the tables, the chairs and the nets - and took everything.".

On the other hand, a security source said that the Gazan mob broke into the scene, the American company's employees fired into the air - and control of the compound was regained. The IDF is not involved in the events.

The IDF said that the incident was recognized and managed by the Americans - who did not flee the compound. The Gaza Humanitarian Fund later announced that control of the situation had been achieved and food distribution had resumed.

This is the first incident since the new distribution centers began operating today, which were established as part of an American initiative to distribute direct aid to Palestinian civilians, while preventing Hamas from controlling the aid.

Two of the four centers, located in the 'Tel Sultan' area and on the 'Moraj' axis in Rafah, began operating today, distributing food packages to thousands of families.

The construction of the complexes took place over the past few months, with cooperation between the political echelon in Israel and the American government, and with the assistance of the IDF through the Southern Command and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).
