The punishment of Old man Shula, former chief of staff of Ehud Olmert, for her conviction in the affair Rashontours The sentence will not be increased, and will remain 9 months of suspended prison and a fine of 40,000 shekels. This was determined today (Tuesday) by the Supreme Court, which decided to accept the request. State Attorney's Office To withdraw her appeal against the severity of Zaken's sentence in the case.
The prosecutor's request was submitted following the plea deal signed between the prosecutor's office and Zaken about a month ago, in which the prosecutor's office pledged to withdraw its appeal against Zaken. The prosecutor's office reasoned in the request that it had recently reached an agreement with Zaken, as part of the Holyland trial being conducted in the Tel Aviv district. In accordance with this agreement, Zaken pledged to cooperate fully with the authorities "also with regard to additional suspicions and charges, and to provide full testimony in any judicial proceedings, as required." According to the prosecutor's office, "Zaken has not yet fulfilled all of her obligations under the agreement, and at this stage she is not in a position to fulfill all of her obligations. Despite this, the state has decided to ask the court to withdraw its appeal against Zaken at this stage, in order to save as much of the court's time as possible in writing the verdict.".
The five Supreme Court justices hearing the case, headed by the President of the Court, Asher Grunis, granted the request and wrote: "At the request of the state and with the consent of Zaken, and in the absence of opposition from Olmert, we permit the state to withdraw its appeal, insofar as it was directed against Zaken, as stated in the Criminal Procedure Law, so that the appeal comes to an end with respect to Zaken.".
The hearing of the appeal filed by the Attorney General's Office to the Supreme Court in the case of Olmert And Zaken, in the Rashontours and Talansky cases, ended in July 2013, but the verdict has been delayed for nearly ten months.
The Attorney General's appeal against the acquittal of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in the Rashontours and Talansky cases is still pending, awaiting the Supreme Court's ruling.
