Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas called one of the released terrorist leaders, Yasser Abu Bakr, and congratulated him on his release.
Abu Bakr was in the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and was imprisoned for 23 years, after being sentenced to 115 years in prison, following planning attacks in 2002.
He is responsible for the attack in the city of Netanya in March 2002, in which Israel Yahya and her nine-month-old baby Malka were murdered.
He is also responsible for the murder of police officer Konstantin Danilov, who was killed in clashes with terrorists near Baqa al-Gharbiya that same month. He also planned a suicide attack at the Tel Hashomer Medical Center.
The chairman of Religious Zionism, Bezalel Smotrich, reacted sharply to the phone call between the chairman of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, and the terrorist leader: "Mahmoud Abbas was and remains an enemy who supports terrorism and encourages terrorism, and the authority he heads was and remains a terrorist organization and not a 'partner' for anything.".
""His phone call tonight to a murderer of Jews is a wake-up call to those who still delude themselves about the Palestinian Authority as an alternative to Hamas in Gaza after the war. It won't happen. Not in Gaza or in Judea and Samaria.".
Former Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir responded: "Close your eyes to the Palestinian terrorist authority that rewards murderers of Jews and educates for terrorism. Release thousands of murderers and terrorists. Stop the war in Gaza. Withdraw from Manzarim and the northern Gaza Strip. Transfer bulldozers to Hamas. And of course, don't forget to tell us that they are deterred. It's time to change the system.".
Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman: "Holocaust denier Abu Mazen is once again showing his true face - a supporter of terror who greets vile murderers. Anyone who hugs terrorists with blood on their hands is himself a terrorist, and cannot be a partner in any move, and certainly not supervise the Rafah crossing.".

Amit Segal wrote: "The face of the partner. Palestinian Authority Chairman Abbas called to congratulate the released terrorist and mass murderer Yasser Abu Bakr, who is responsible for the murder of three Jews.
""He was released this evening to his home in Judea and Samaria. Previously, the Palestinian Media Watch website reported that the Fatah movement is holding a training course for activists named after him.".
""Last week, Abbas met with 11 former left-wing Knesset members who returned shocked by his condemnation of October 7, a condemnation that somehow wasn't recorded. I wonder what they think tonight.".
