Pierre Pouliav, the leader of the opposition in Canada - a true friend of Israel, who according to all polls will be the next prime minister - celebrated last night (Wednesday) the lighting of the first candle of Hanukkah together with the Jewish community, and sent a strong message of support for the Jewish people and the State of Israel, with a particularly Zionist speech.
Polyav, who previously hosted Shabbat in the ultra-Orthodox city of Beitar Illit, said: "Here in Canada and around the world as we enter the Festival of Lights, we remember the amazing, heroic and miraculous victory of the Maccabees over the Slovak-Greek Empire in defense of freedom, freedom for the Jews, freedom for all, freedom everywhere.
""Then the Maccabees were completely alone. Today the Jewish people have friends. You have friends all over the world who hope for your success, friends who join you in lighting the menorah, friends who join you arm in arm in moving forward toward peace, security and freedom. This beautiful and bright future is ahead of us.".
He added: "I join you today, with a spirit of optimism and friendship, and a heartfelt happy holiday, Happy Hanukkah!""
