Communications Minister Shlomo Karai claimed on Tuesday afternoon that the letter to dismiss the ombudsman he is signing has the full support of Justice Minister Yariv Levin. "Without backing from government ministers, it is difficult to initiate a procedure in accordance with the established mechanism for dismissal in the Shamgar Committee," he said. According to him, "the ombudsman's conduct knowingly thwarts the government's policy for political reasons, while inventing unfounded legal obstacles and while exceeding the limits of the legal mandate granted to her. "The time has come to act. We will not be able to wash our hands of the situation if we do not do everything in our power to remove this obstacle from Israeli democracy. I am sure that ultimately, under significant public pressure, additional ministers will declare support for the move." Karai added: "The Justice Minister informed me that in the event of such significant support, he will bring it up for discussion immediately. This political advisor should be sent home, and preferably one hour earlier.". The letter has been signed so far by: Likud - Shlomo Karei, Miki Zohar, May Golan, Idit Silman, Amichai Shikli, David Amsalem and Chaim Katz. United Torah Judaism - Yitzhak Goldknopf and Meir Porush. Otzma Yehudit - Itamar Ben-Gvir, Yitzhak Wasserlauf and Amichai Eliyahu. Religious Zionism - Orit Strok. Karei noted that "Yariv Levin did not sign, of course, because he is the executor and the prime minister is out of the picture due to the conflict of interest that she forced upon him, in her defense.".
