Year of the outbreak of the 'Iron Swords' War: The Rehabilitation Division at the Defense Ministry revealed today (Tuesday) that since the beginning of the war on October 7, approximately 12,000 wounded have been admitted to the Rehabilitation Division.

According to the data, the number of patients in the ward increased by 20 percent during the year of fighting and now stands at 74,000. The data also shows that about 1,500 people were injured twice during the fighting.

Most of the injured (51%) are young people between the ages of 18 and 30, about 8,500 of them (66%) are dealing with physical injuries. 5,200 (43%) have developed psychological reactions. 14% of the injured are defined as having moderate-severe injuries, 23 with severe head injuries, 60 amputees who were fitted with prosthetic limbs, 5 of whom required fitting abroad, and 12 injured who lost their sight.

About 900 new wounded have been evacuated to hospitals since the start of the ground operation in Lebanon, a 1.5-fold increase compared to September. 140 of them were admitted to the rehabilitation wing and the rest were treated and returned to fighting.

66 percent of the injured are reservists, 16 percent are regular service members, 11 percent are police officers and 7 percent are regular military personnel. In terms of age: 51% of the injured are under the age of 30. About 30 percent are between the ages of 30 and 40 and 19% of the injured are over the age of 40.

Of the 8,500 people dealing with physical injuries: 48% suffer from limb injuries, 29% from ear, eye and burn injuries, 12% from internal injuries, 9% from spinal injuries, 2% from head injuries.

7% of the injured are women.

According to the head of the Rehabilitation Division, Limor Luria, in the past the number of injured women was about 7 percent of all injured, but now the nature of the injuries is different and they are mainly injuries that characterize combat with an increase in the number of female fighters.

According to estimates by the Rehabilitation Division, by 2030 there will be approximately 100,000 disabled IDF personnel, 501,000 of whom are mentally challenged.

In order to prepare for the volume of wounded, a customer service division was established in the Rehabilitation Division, which, along with improving the technological and digital response, will help simplify bureaucracy for IDF disabled people and "Iron Swords" wounded.

The average annual cost of the treatment and financial support package for a war wounded person is approximately 150,000 NIS.

The data:

• 93% of the injured are men, 7% of the injured are women

• 66% Reserve Servicemen

• 51% 18 to 30 years old

• 14% of the injured are classified as having moderate-severe injuries

• 377 of them had head injuries, 23 of them with severe injuries that required skull reconstruction with the help of a 3D printer

• 308 with eye injuries, 12 of whom lost their eyesight and needed a prosthesis

• 104 with spinal injuries

• 60 amputees who were fitted with an advanced and innovative prosthesis that matches their lifestyle.

• 5,200 (43%) of the injured developed various mental reactions (anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties and post-traumatic stress disorder, etc.)

• Each month, an average of about 1,000 wounded from the ongoing war are admitted, plus about 500 new requests for recognition from past events.
