exposure: Rabbi Toledano, who is running for the Jerusalem rabbinate, met on the eve of the holiday with his brother-in-law, the rabbi of the city, Rabbi Yosef, and discussed the contest with him.
Rabbi Toledano, the son-in-law of the late Rabbi Yosef, is the brother-in-law of the Rabbi, and on the eve of the holiday they met at the Rabbi's home for a meeting that dealt with the Jerusalem race.
The Haredim10 learned that the Rabbi emphasized during the meeting that he cannot interfere in the elections at all, by virtue of his official position as Chief Rabbi of Israel.
However, the rabbi told the rabbi that he actually supports his candidacy, and thinks he is worthy of the position.
As we previously reported in Haredim10, so far no support has been given by the Yosef family to Rabbi Toledano, apparently due to the intention of the Council of Torah Sages member, the Grad Yosef, to also run. Now that the Grad has withdrawn his candidacy, the way has apparently been paved for support for Rabbi Toledano.
At the end of the holiday, Rabbi Toledano arrived at the home of the president of the Council of Torah Sages, Rabbi Cohen. The Haredim10 learned that the Rabbi expressed full support for his candidacy.
A senior Shas source told Haredim10 that in light of the current list of candidates, Rabbi Toledano's chances are increasing. "We will have difficulty supporting Gersham Amar," the source admitted, "and Rabbi Toledano is definitely a compromise candidate who could also be agreed upon with United Torah Judaism.".
The source analyzed the balance of power in the electorate, and claimed that with proper and joint work by all Haredi elements, it will be possible to bring about the victory of the Haredi candidate, especially after the candidacy of Rabbi Eliyahu, which will lead to a split in the votes of religious Zionism.
Let us recall that the letter of support for Rabbi Toledano's candidacy was signed by, among others: the president of the Council of Torah Sages, Rabbi Cohen, members of the Council, Rabbi Adani and Rabbi Maya, members of the Council of Torah Sages, Rabbi Ezrachi (in whose shishab Rabbi Toledano studied), and Rabbi Povarsky, as well as the Rebbe of Belza.
Despite the signatures of members of the Council of Torah Scholars, currently Degel HaTorah is in no hurry to support Rabbi Toledano.
As you may recall, the rabbi of Beer Sheva, the Rabbi Deri, also submitted his candidacy, and now it remains to be seen what he will do. His associates said upon submitting his candidacy that continuing the run depends on the decision of the great men of Israel. Rabbi Deri is related by family to both Rabbi Yitzhak and Rabbi Toledano.
The office of Rabbi Yosef stated in response to the Haredim10: The Chief Rabbinate does not interfere at all in the elections to the Jerusalem rabbinate.
