A Hasidic abbot who is part of the community of the yeshiva head from Gur, asked Rabbi Alter in a letter he sent - whether to volunteer to help with the elections in Bnei Brak or to refrain from doing so, in order to avoid getting emotionally involved with all that this implies.
First thing at the polls: What will you do if there is an alarm when you vote?
The Rosh Yeshiva replied to the Abrevet - by emphasizing his letter - that he must volunteer to be an observer, and that he must know that the desire not to act also comes from laziness, etc. It is true that he is not obligated to engage in persuading voters, and he must try to minimize as much as possible the distraction and desire for revenge and control that accompany the matter.
At the end of the letter, our rabbi adds: "One can receive a 'vaccine' (not to get carried away too much) by studying the relevant chapters in moral books.".
The Alter community is running in the elections in Bnei Brak on the 'Good of the City' list, headed by Attorney Shlomo Elbaum.
