The Shtibel couple were on their way to give birth on Shabbat two weeks ago at the Hadassah Mount Scopus Medical Center in Jerusalem - but as they were driving in their car in the Isawiya neighborhood, they were attacked with rocks and fireworks. The father of the family, Eliyahu, was even physically attacked by Arab rioters.

Although two weeks have passed since the lynching, none of the rioters have been arrested so far.

Attorney Haim Bleicher of Mhonenu wrote a letter to the commander of the Jerusalem Police District, requesting that the police take action to arrest the rioters.

In his letter, Attorney Bleicher describes the difficult event: "My clients, a young couple, traveled in their car with a birth support worker to the birth of their third son at Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus, after my client felt labor pains. Due to changes in the roads on Mount Scopus, my client made a wrong turn and entered the Isawiya neighborhood.

""As soon as my client realized he was wrong, he asked young minority men how to continue towards the hospital, and they deliberately misled my client and signaled them to continue to a place that took them deeper into the neighborhood. At one point, an older minority man noticed them and ordered them to make a U-turn and follow him to get them out of there. As soon as my client began to disperse, an organized attack began against my client, when dozens of terrorists began throwing stones and shooting fireworks in a line directly at my client.".

""One of the terrorists opened the door, grabbed my client's head and began hitting him hard in the face, neck and back. But miraculously, after a struggle, my client managed to push the terrorist away and start driving. During the drive, stones and fireworks were thrown at the vehicle. One of the stones shattered the rear window and threw many pieces of glass at my client and the birth attendant who was with them in the vehicle.

""My client, with great resourcefulness, managed to rescue the vehicle and reach the hospital, from where one of the citizens on the scene called the police.".

In his letter, Attorney Bleicher emphasizes the importance of arresting the rioters in order to restore security to the residents of the area - and asks to involve the Shin Bet in investigating the incident: "It is not possible that in the capital city a couple coming to give birth in a hospital would undergo such an attempted mass murder. A brutal event of this type must not go unpunished with the terrorists, despite the difficulties in obtaining evidence.".

""We appreciate the police's activity, and in particular the resolute activity of the Shalem station. However, due to the seriousness of the incident, I would like to request that the incident be investigated also through the Shin Bet, while using all the tools available to the state authorities in their fight against terrorism. This incident must be seen as a strategic threat to our lives and action must be taken with all force against those responsible for these atrocities, including using administrative tools against the suspects and even against the neighborhood, many of whose residents are complicit in and support these inhumane acts.".

Attorney Bleicher says: "This is a brutal lynching incident with moral implications for all citizens of the country. A couple on the way to giving birth, when the woman kneels to give birth, is caught when the attackers, aware that they are on the way to giving birth, choose to lynch them. While the woman is dealing with labor pains, she has to deal with a group of murderous rioters who are trying to kill her, her husband, and her birth support worker. Such an incident must not pass quietly. The incident should shock the 'mothers of the thresholds.' We expect the State of Israel to ensure that the perpetrators who were part of this abomination are punished, whether through arrests or administrative punishment.".
